A ThruFlow Test Section at Sea Shore National Park

Composite Dune Crossing ThruFlow™ Test Section

Although many tests are most appropriately done in a controlled situation of a laboratory, sooner or later every product must face the real world.  And, there is nothing more challenging than the Florida Sunshine impinging upon the surface of this composite material.  Now, add to that a very high traffic area, right at the entrance of a park that gets as many or more than 500,000 visitors per year.  Wow !  This is the perfect place.  And, the 100% non-prorated 12 year warranty is stil intact.  We believe there is no similar composite decking material that will perform better, and that warranty is a statement of confidence.  It is likely that the wood decking would have to be changed every several years to remain safe and attractive, while we believe the ThruFlow™ material will last into the 30 years + range and still look good and be safe.

Here is what Mark said about ThruFlow™ used in this test application:

I think it's time to give you all the latest update on your thruflow product. Folks you have a fantastic product and I am proud as a peacock to experiment this at our Beach. Yes we are working on three years since I installed these two decking sections [ 6'w x 5'L] on both sides of the dune on our Boardwalk #1b. There is NO mold or mildew what so ever on any piece of Thruflow™. The non-skid is STILL 100% which is  UNBELIEVEABLE!! The ultra violet rays have not compromised your product at all, ie no spider/stress cracks or no other visible signs of fatigue. People, I have even jumped up and down on the decking and it don't even squeek. I love this stuff!! Anyway, this is truly a great product!

Thank you Mark for the kind words.

This ThruFlow section is in Canaveral SeaShore National Park near New Smyrna Beach.  Once you pass the entrance gate there is a dune cross over from a parking area to the beach.  I remember our visit after this section was placed into the dune walk that was undergoing renovations.  The pressure treated wood decking was being replaced and the park personnel was interested in exploring new materials.  ThruFlow was placed several places in the dune walk.  While there, a couple walked past us on the 6 foot wide structure, and asked, "Is this to knock the sand off our feet before we get into our car".  Quick thinking Mark who supervised and built this project along with other park personnel, acknowledged that it was indeed.  Another benefit of ThruFlow, I noted.  Not just Sunlight and Rain, but now Sand Flows Thru.

Of course, when it was placed we knew this was a tough test, especially since we know that foot traffic with sand carried on the feet and footwear could have an abrasive effect.  After 3 years into the test, the anti-slip surface texture is still looking like new.  The sand just rolls and vibrates right thru the ThruFlow™ openings, and is further cleaned by every rainstorm.
