Advanced Waterfront Technologies has advanced materials for construction of you dock and pier. Newer recommendations and regulations from counties and state agencies increasingly favor materials that do not leach chemicals into the water.
The photo to the right shows a pier in Destin, FL which uses ThruFlow Decking and Harbor Technologies, Inc. Composite Piles.
The ThruFlow decking will allow water to pass through during a storm surge thereby lessening the upward forces, it will not warp in the Florida sun, it will not get hot to bare feet, its textured surface will provide excellent traction for any kind of footwear or none at all whether wet or dry.
The Harbor Technologies Piles are immune to destruction by worms without the need for any caustic chemicals. The lifetime of a composite pile is many times that of a wood pile. Also, composite piles have an engineered modulus of elasticity to be stiff to normal use, but to have some give in a hard docking situation.

But if you think these materials only offer the advantage of clearing regulatory huddles, let me assure you, there is plenty of benefit for the owner and user of the dock or pier as well. Generally speaking there is much much less maintenance with modern composite materials, and our materials last longer than older materials such as pressure treated lumber.

Long Pier or Trail Over a Lowlands Area
ThruFlow is in its element in low land and marsh areas. Any access to open water can be hundreds of feet away from solid land. In order to have the lowest impact on the environment, this long pier and walkway uses ThruFlow deck material. The long lasting composite material also has an excellent traction surface, open areas to let water and sun though to the vegetation below. Mother Nature says thank you and so do this walkway's passengers since it is a very comfortable walking surface.
